Sex changes lives
// November 22nd, 2009 // TXC
Who would have known that talking about sex in church for 5 weeks would be a catalyst to see so many people’s lives changed?! We took a risk with this series, knowing that some people wouldn’t take the 5 seconds needed to see that we’re not teaching heresy. Some ran away from the church because of it but they are few and far between and I’m sure they’ll find another church. And you know what? I’ll take the chance of offending an uptight Christian any day if one more person is reconnected to Jesus because of the gospel transforming their lives.
The beautiful thing is, that happened over and over and over again during this series. We didn’t know what to expect and for that matter we really didn’t know what we were going to teach exactly. We had the broad themes but the details were fuzzy. I’d say that God definitely directed us to say the things that needed to be said each week. It all blended perfectly and in the end, each week always ended at Jesus. I didn’t know that was possible talking about sex. I’m sure a lot of people in our church didn’t either!
I had this feeling that with this week being the last week of the series it was going to be just as powerful as last, probably in a different way though. I felt like it brought every week back together and finished the puzzle. God showed me some amazing insights into the passage while I was studying and I think it translated really well into our every day lives.
In the end, this series wasn’t about sex at all. It’s about being who God created us to be. Sure sex is a part of that but our goal wasn’t to just talk about sex and go home. It points to something much greater than that. We were all brought back to the reality of who we are and the reality of who Jesus calls us when we choose to follow him.
I’m praying this week that the petals that were laid at the foot of the cross will stay there and that roses will begin to rebloom, reclaiming the beauty that is already there. (You can watch the vodcast tomorrow to see what I’m talking about)
